FIGHTING HUNGER AND MALNUTRITION
Every year some 5.9 million children die before reaching their fifth birthday – almost half of them because they don’t have enough to eat . Hunger weakens the children to the point where they are prone to develop illnesses such as diarrhoea and pneumonia.
Malnutrition is a common problem. Save the Children identities malnourished kids and supplies them with specialised nutrition as well as medical care.

ENABLING IMPROVED EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Poverty, armed conflicts and other humanitarian crises are the main reasons for children not being able to attend school. On top of this, some school systems discriminate against certain groups. Save the Children advocates for children’s right to realise their right to education. In many educational projects we enable girls and boys to attend school for the first time, help improve teaching quality and create educational offers for children in crisis situations .

PROTECTING CHILDREN DURING CRISES AND CONFLICTS
Millions of children are fleeing, recruited as child soldiers and forced into harmful work: They are at risk of becoming victims of exploitation, violence, neglect and abuse. Save the Children creates so called “Child Friendly Spaces” in crisis regions all around the world to offer children a safe place to play and learn.
